Brooke & Nate • Maine Winter Engagement

Meet Brooke + Nate!

They are getting married in January 2022 and I so excited for them! We met in June 2020 when they attended my Lupine Mini sessions! We all clicked immediately and I was hoping once Nate ever proposed that they could contact me! Well, they also came to my Tree Farm Mini sessions and Nate surprised us both by proposing! So many tears and happy dances happened that day! Here we are less than a year until their wedding and we have become such great friends…oh and I’m photographing their wedding haha!

I sent Booke + Nate  some fun questions to answer so I could learn all about them!

I love getting to know my clients and their story! I love all their answers but the last one is super special to me.

How did the two of you meet?
The two of us met at Rock Harbor Pub & Brewery in Rockland, Maine on trivia night. We were both there with friends and ran into each other towards the end of the night. Turns out, each of our friends knew one another and Nate introduced himself when they came over to say hi. We chatted for a bit before both parting ways. That night, we connected on Facebook, and the rest is history.

 How did the proposal happen?
We had booked a Tree Farm mini session with Rachel, as we thought it was a great opportunity to get some nice photos for Christmas cards that year. Rachel was posing us and giving us direction when she paused to look for a good spot. It was in that moment that Nate spoke up and said “I have a pose I’d like to try”, pulled the ring box out of his boot, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I don’t know who was more shocked, Rachel or I. We all shared happy tears as a quickly said “yes!”. It was truly perfect, and got some amazing photos of the special moment to look back on.

What is your favorite thing about each other?
Brooke: My favorite thing about Nate is how he stops at nothing to make me happy. Whether it be giving in to getting a puppy, or buying me the winter coat from LL Bean that I’ve been eyeing for months. He might not always understand but takes the time put himself in my shoes and see why something means so much to me. It really is the little things. Nate: My favorite thing about Brooke is how willing she is to try new things and go on the adventures I want to take her on. She always tries her best, and puts her best foot forward when I am showing her something new, even if it puts her out of her comfort zone. She allows me to show her the things I enjoy even if it’s not really her thing.

Why did you choose your wedding venue/wedding location?
We really wanted something local that could host every aspect of our wedding, from the rehearsal dinner, to the reception. We both grew up attending events at the Samoset and Nate often golfs there in the summer/fall. It’s beautiful, and it’s the prefect representation of where we both grew up. We toured the Samoset shortly after getting engaged and fell in love instantly. We knew it would be the perfect spot to celebrate with out closest friends and family, in one of the most beautiful parts of Maine. 5. Are there any super special details/events you’re planning for your wedding that I should know of ahead of time? One thing that we can’t wait for is our first look. It’s important to us to have our closest friends and family there, but also make sure we have a special moment for just the two of us to enjoy. It will not only be meaningful to us, but we will be able to capture some great “in the moment” shots that we can look back on for years to come.

What is the coolest thing you’ve done together as a couple?
We both love to travel, whether it be to Florida, Cape Code, or up north for a weekend of snowmobiling. One of our favorite trips was to Tampa, Florida where we visited Busch Gardens. We rode all the roller coasters and looked at all the beautiful animals in the park. It was our first real vacation together, and we look back at it now as one of our fondest memories. We learned a lot about each other and each got to enjoy the warm weather while each experiencing something the other really enjoyed.

What are your wedding colors or theme if you have one?
We chose navy blue and gold as our wedding colors. Since we are planning a winter wedding, we wanted to have the winter feel with an elegant touch. We both love navy blue and through gold would be the perfect accent color that would pop in our photos.

What is the most important part of the wedding photography experience to you?
One thing that we both agreed upon early on was choosing a photographer that would not only capture beautiful photos on our big day, but to choose someone that we felt was more of a friend than just a vendor (as with all our vendors). We want to be able to look back years from now at the photos captured and be able to feel like we are back in that exact moment on that very day. Rachel’s work is absolutely stunning, and we knew from the second we had our first mini session with her, that she would one day be our wedding photographer.
